Late Fall Afternoon

The winds finally died down with the tide out so I took a trek down to our rock strewn beach to check our banking and simply spend a little quiet time communing with the Bay. It's been a beautiful early November day and I just wanted to make it last. We all know what's coming pretty quickly but no one talks about it.

We have a pretty steep banking in front of our house and in the last week with all the planets in line we've seen extremely high and extremely low tides. There is no doubt the water level has risen over the last decade so we're starting to see some of the front of Peaks Island joining the Bay through slides. At some point a portion of our banking may join the parade moving downward to the water but there's not a lot I can do about it. I simply let the shrubbery grow to hold the banking and continue to throw grass clippings, leaves and dispensed shrubbery over the side to mulch into the existing banking. Maybe some day we'll make forward progress toward Portland by creating a natural bridge!

For today though, it was simply a beautiful, calm quiet late afternoon. Enjoy the scenes before the winter snows take over.

Thanks for the note Kell; glad to see you're peeking in now and again to stay current with our pile of rocks on this wonderful little Island. Let the North Shore swells rise; time to watch some surfing movies again!! UB
