It's Almost Memorial Day

Sorry for being absent so long but way too much time got spent in the past two months in City Hall budget meetings; for what, I'm not exactly sure right now. But, they are done and free at last, free at last.

It seems with each passing day, the island traffic of people, bikes, walkers, golf carts and cars is increasing by the hour. Way too many huge black SUV's filling up our byways. Just the other night I happened to be on the backshore with the sun slowly setting, no one else around and just the sound of the small surf and gulls filling the air----perfect!! I'm certainly glad I took the time to just stop and watch the sun go down. I do not know when the next opportunity for that type of quiet time will come again.

With next week being Memorial Day weekend, we will definitely see a further uptick in people and day trippers and the first of the renters. It is always enjoyable to see the smiles of the people coming off the boat for the first time after a long winter though. Just huge smiles at being "home" again. This pile of rocks does have a huge hold on people no matter if they're here year round or just for a few weeks. I absolutely feel privileged to call it my home.
