Welcome to the 4th!

There is nothing like the 4th of July weekend on Peaks Island-nothing. The folks pile on the boats with bikes, kyaks, kids hanging out the windows and they all wash ashore on our little island. Just remember, our little island has about 900 year round residents counting all kids, dogs and cats and a couple of pigs and even a rooster. On this one weekend of the year, we approach the 5,000 mark! Can one spell Zoo??? Well, we have one this weekend.

This morning Jill went down front to sit outside Hannigan's Market to sell some of Sean's designed t-shirts on behalf of the Island Health Center. I roamed down later in the morning to see if the island was still holding together--or not. Brad's Bikes were in full swing, the Who Let Out the Dogs Hot Dog wagon was cookin', the ice cream was flowing and the touristas were definitely out and about. Looking for something to do, buy, eat or just sit and watch, the island was definitely on the move this morning. Here's some pictures of what Peaks looks like on the Saturday morning of the busiest weekend of the year. Enjoy.

A Quiet Evening

The sun's just gone down and I had some quiet time on the backshore of Peaks. Not much going on. A few people wandering down the middle of the road. A few people bicycling four abreast across the road and a few loose dogs running around checking each other out. A nice, peaceful evening.

Over the weekend, the crowds definitely picked up. With school out, everyone descended on poor Peaks for the 4th of July family gatherings. Much more noise but so far everyone's having a good time. We have some renters next door for a couple of weeks. Three generations of family from Maine, Texas and somewhere else gathered together for bike riding, deck reading and snoozing and of course trips to the corner store for some ice cream cones after dinner.

It's definitely summer on the Island.

Ahhh, Summer---Finally!

It's been way too long since I've posted. For this I apologize but "island issues" kept me way too busy running back and forth to the State Legislature in Augusta. For now, that issue has been halted but I'm sure there is more to come.

Yet, the seasons move on and the lupens have returned right along with the touristas. Summer is about to begin now that the kids are out of school. Many of the summer cottages are now open, the golf carts are out in force, the roads are becoming clogged with bicycles and walkers and the energy of the island is on the rise. Me, I'm just staying in my yard keeping an eye on all the undone yardwork that was let go for the past couple of months. Of course, my beloved Red Sox are once again giving me nightmares and joys all within the same three hour game---so what's new??

I'll try and get my camera fired up more often to catch the passing events and scenes on Peaks. Enjoy "Parents Day" this weekend. I know it gives Jill a double holiday this year but she was away during Mothers Day so this our way of catching up. My best to all and enjoy the Summer.
